Trevor Story Nears Red Sox Return After 2 More Rehab Games

Two more rehab games at Triple-A Worcester this week could put Trevor Story back in Boston’s lineup as soon as the weekend home series against the Giants.
Story played four innings at shortstop and went 1-for-2 in his first rehab game Sunday, with the Red Sox now focused on how his legs, swing and next-day recovery respond over seven to nine innings.
The 33-year-old has been out since May 14 and is returning from sports hernia surgery after struggling through 41 games while playing hurt earlier this season.
Boston still expects a healthy Story to reclaim shortstop, though Andruw Monasterio’s recent production could keep his bat in the lineup elsewhere in the infield.
Roman Anthony also begins a rehab assignment Tuesday, giving the Red Sox another potential boost for a leadoff spot that has lacked production all season.
