Summary
Three earthquakes above magnitude 4.0 struck Granada province on Tuesday, lightly injuring three people and prompting fresh restrictions at the Alhambra, where access to parts of the hilltop complex was halted.
A 4.7 quake centered at surface level in Gojar, 10 km south of Granada, hit at 10:37 a.m. and was followed within minutes by two slightly weaker tremors nearby, increasing the risk of localized building damage.
Granada authorities closed administrative buildings, museums and sports facilities, while the metro cut train speeds to 30 kph and local media showed several hotels being evacuated.
Residential buildings suffered visible cracks, dislodged facades and fallen bricks, marking a sharper impact on the Alhambra area after officials said Saturday's 5.0 quake had not affected the palace.
The latest tremors extend a run of shallow earthquakes in southern Granada since the weekend, disrupting one of Spain's busiest tourist zones, which drew 2.7 million Alhambra visitors last year.
