Chicago Woman Uncovers $45-an-Hour Job Scam After Fake Check

Summary
Shayde Fisher of Wheeling realized a remote content-editor job was fake when the supposed employer mailed her a check and told her to buy work equipment with the funds.
The scam had looked legitimate through a video interview, a second chat interview and official-looking hiring paperwork, leading Fisher to share her Social Security number and banking information.
A direct check with the Germany-based company exposed the fraud: it told her it has no U.S. branch and no such opening.
Fisher has since replaced bank accounts and credit cards, expects months of credit monitoring, and is now unemployed after leaving her dealership job for the bogus role.
Indeed said fraudulent postings violate its policies and that it uses human review and technology to remove suspicious listings and suspend offending accounts.
