Summary
At the 2026 Philippine Tech Mission in Australia, GCash said it is deepening Philippines-Australia digital-finance cooperation to make cross-border transfers near real-time, simpler and safer for users.
The push targets more than 408,000 Overseas Filipinos and 40,000 students in Australia who rely on remittance channels to support families and businesses back home.
GCash is backing that effort with its International Transfers service, launched earlier this year in 16 countries, letting users send pesos from their e-wallets while recipients receive local currency.
Fees start at ₱180 and include real-time tracking, while GCash said blockchain, stablecoins and AI could further cut costs and improve settlement speed, FX conversion and risk checks.
The Austrade- and DFAT-backed mission, joined by BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan, tied the payments push to broader Philippine and Australian plans for more open, secure regional trade and remittance flows.
