Summary
Roman Anthony went 2-for-2 with two walks and a 108.1-mph fifth-inning homer Tuesday, helping Double-A Portland beat Reading 7-5 in his first game action since May.
The 22-year-old is rehabbing a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger and said his opposite-field single, walks and checked swings were stronger signs than the home run that his hand felt right.
Justin Gonzales — MLB's No. 79 prospect and Boston's No. 2 — opened atop the lineup in his Sea Dogs debut and went 2-for-5 after a High-A season with a .271/.391/.463 line, 17 homers and 11 steals.
Boston has not set a timetable for Anthony's return or full outfield workload, saying the rehab assignment will proceed day to day based on recovery.
