Summary
3 trillion won is earmarked for FLiPP, with LG Display saying production of the FMM-less OLED process could start in late 2027 at the earliest.
FLiPP removes fine metal masks and, under identical conditions, lifts brightness 1.6 times, extends lifespan 2.4 times and cuts power use 13% by raising aperture ratio about 55%.
LG Display said it is the first to make FMM-less OLEDs on a full 8.5-generation mother glass, using its existing Tandem WOLED infrastructure and positioning FLiPP as its own proprietary technology.
The company plans to start with IT panels such as tablets and monitors, then expand to products from 1-inch wearables and VR/AR displays to ultra-large TVs up to 100 inches.
The push comes as Japan Display, Visionox, TCL CSOT and Samsung Display pursue alternative OLED manufacturing routes, with Chinese rivals preparing broader OLED expansion.
