Portland Police Identify 23-Year-Old Titus Rohde in Fatal Aug. 15 Shooting

There is no verified public explanation yet for why the gathering turned deadly, and police have not identified or arrested a shooter. What is known is that a large gathering was underway near Southeast Water Avenue and Southeast Caruthers Street in Portland’s Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood when gunfire erupted around 2:49 a.m. on Aug. 15. Investigators later established a second crime scene near Southeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Southeast Alder Street, where 23-year-old Titus Rohde of Vancouver, Washington, was found dead inside a vehicle at a gas station. The medical examiner said he died from a gunshot wound and ruled the death a homicide. Two other adult men were also shot. One suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance. The other was driven to a hospital by private vehicle after lifesaving treatment for serious injuries; both are expected to survive. As for the “phantom shooter,” that remains unknown. Police have released no suspect description, no motive, and no details indicating whether one or more shooters were involved. No arrests have been announced. Detectives have said people likely left before officers arrived and may hold key evidence, including phone video, photos, or eyewitness accounts that could explain the chain of events.
