Summary
L’Enfant Plaza station and parts of the Yellow Line hosted the Freedom 250 IndyCar on Thursday, giving Metro riders a preview of this weekend’s Washington Grand Prix.
Metro said rail is the best way to reach the race, with normal weekend service planned and extra trains on standby after the event to clear crowds.
8 stations will serve the course, but spectators can enter only through the security gate tied to their Stars or Stripes ticket section, with Metro directing riders to the nearest stop.
Aug. 20 also marks the start of sales for a limited-edition SmarTrip card at select stations, while bus detours around the National Mall continue through Sept. 15 on 16 routes.
