Q: Google's new Pixel 11 Pro case boasts advanced magnetic features, but will its TPU materials inevitably yellow over time?

Probably not inevitably in the short term, but some yellowing risk remains because the Pixel 11 Pro clear case uses TPU. Google’s case is not all TPU. It is a hybrid of TPU, polycarbonate and magnets, and that matters. Clear cases with a polycarbonate back and TPU bumper generally resist discoloration better than all-TPU designs, because polycarbonate is more stable against UV light and oxidation. In practice, the TPU edges are still the most likely area to yellow over time. The science is well established: TPU can discolor as UV exposure, heat, oxygen, skin oils and everyday wear break down the polymer and create yellow-tinted compounds inside the material. That process is internal, so cleaning can remove grime but cannot fully reverse true material yellowing. What is unclear is how aggressively Google treated the TPU. Manufacturers can slow yellowing with UV absorbers and hindered amine light stabilizers, but Google has not publicly detailed any anti-yellowing additives for this case. Its promise to keep the phone “looking fresh for years” suggests durability goals, but it is not the same as a specific anti-yellowing guarantee. So the most defensible answer is that yellowing is possible, especially on the flexible TPU parts, but it is not certain to happen quickly. The hybrid TPU-plus-polycarbonate build should age better than a cheap fully TPU clear case, and careful use—less sun, less heat, regular cleaning—can help delay discoloration.
