James Carville used a Thursday press conference to attack the Democratic Party’s far-left flank, saying outspoken socialists were drowning out mainstream Democrats and should stop using the party’s name.
The event promoted the Promise to America, a moderate pledge championing capitalism, safety, fiscal responsibility, effective government, common purpose and patriotism as Democrats fight over the party’s identity before November’s midterms.
Carville argued the platform reflects what 80% of Democrats want, framing it as a return to popular, practical politics rather than an ideological shift.
Only 10 House Democrats and five House candidates have signed on so far, though co-sponsors Tom Suozzi and Adam Gray said the effort is meant to spread through state and local officials, not just Washington.
The push highlights a widening Democratic split that Republicans are already using to argue the party is being pulled toward a far-left agenda.
