Summary

  • Aug. 20-30, Orange Line trains will stop running between Oak Grove and Back Bay as the MBTA carries out a planned 11-day shutdown.
  • Track and signal crews will replace rails, ties, plates, insulators and fasteners, complete tamping work, and finish signal upgrades from Oak Grove to Tufts Medical Center, including equipment relocations at North Station, Community College and Wellington.
  • Free shuttle buses will run between Oak Grove and North Station, with express service at four stations, while fare-free Haverhill Line commuter rail and extra Green Line trains will help move riders toward downtown.
  • The MBTA said a continuous multi-day closure is more efficient than overnight or weekend-only work and will also allow side projects such as platform upgrades, bridge inspections, station deep cleans, drainage work and radio installations.
