Zepp app version 10.7.3 reveals a new Solar Boost Mode for the unannounced Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar, limiting the watch to time, battery level and solar intensity to improve charging efficiency.
New code in the update also adds solar statistics, intensity readings in kLux, charging records, notifications and the full T-Rex Dual Solar product name, suggesting customer-facing software is nearing completion.
The mode disables most other functions, including data sync, route transfer, app-started workouts and some Zepp Coach features, indicating Zepp aims to cut power draw so incoming solar energy can raise battery levels.
That approach would differ from typical solar smartwatches such as Garmin's, which generally extend battery life while normal functions keep running, though charging speed and real-world gains remain unknown.
