The likely trade-off is slower relaunch and a bit more background work when an “shrunk” app is used again. If MagicOS 11 cuts a rarely used app down to a fraction of its normal footprint, the system still has to restore, rehydrate or reload parts of that app when you open it, which can mean a colder start than if the full app were kept intact. That fits broader Android performance patterns. Smaller apps and leaner storage help devices overall, especially older phones under storage pressure, because low free space is a well-known cause of slowdown. But when app assets, code, cache or libraries are compressed, offloaded or stripped back until needed, the cost tends to show up at launch time: more disk reads, decompression, resource rebuilding and cache regeneration. In practical terms, the app may open more slowly the first time after sitting unused, and some features or content may take a moment to fully load. The effect is most noticeable on older devices with slower flash storage and weaker processors. A phone may feel faster overall because it has more free space and less storage bloat, yet individual dormant apps can feel less instant when revived. There can also be a short-term battery and CPU hit during that restoration process. So the hidden cost is not usually lost functionality, but delayed responsiveness: faster system health in exchange for potentially slower first launch of infrequently used apps.
