People born on the 21st through 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month—in August 2026, that is Aug. 26—while those born earlier are paid on Aug. 12 or Aug. 19. The amount of the benefit is unchanged; only the delivery date differs. Retirement, disability and survivor benefits are calculated from work history and claiming rules, not from where a birthday falls in the month. What late-born recipients do lose is timing. They wait longer each month for the same money, which can matter for rent, utilities or overdraft risk. But over time, they still receive 12 monthly payments a year, and when a scheduled date falls on a weekend or holiday, SSA generally moves the payment earlier, not later. August’s other payments went out earlier in the month: SSI was issued on July 31 because August 1 fell on a Saturday, and August 3 covered pre-May 1997 beneficiaries and people receiving both Social Security and SSI.
Average monthly benefits cited by the SSA were $2,031.74 for retirement, $1,498.43 for disability, $1,634.61 for survivor benefits and $736.54 for SSI.
