Sokcho recorded a 67.7% economic activity participation rate in H1 2026, the highest among Gangwon’s seven cities, while its employment rate for ages 15 to 64 also led at 73.6%.
Among 67,000 residents aged 15 or older, 45,000 were economically active and 44,000 were employed, lifting the overall employment rate to 66.5%—second only to Taebaek.
Year on year, Sokcho’s participation rate rose 0.5 percentage points and its overall employment rate edged up 0.1 point, extending a run in which it also led all three indicators in H1 2025.
Tourism and services underpinned the gains: 27.2% of workers were in wholesale, retail, accommodation, and food services—the highest share among Gangwon’s 18 cities and counties—and 31.1% worked in service and sales jobs.
Sokcho said it will keep supporting its tourism-service job base while shifting policy toward better job quality and longer-term employment sustainability.
