Veena V says eating avocado daily can support heart health, digestion, fullness, nutrient absorption and intake of key vitamins and minerals when it is part of a balanced diet.
One avocado a day over six months was linked in a Clinical Lipidology journal report to lower LDL particle concentrations, while its monounsaturated fat and fibre may also help replace less healthy fats and improve satiety.
A single avocado adds fibre and potassium—described as higher than banana gram for gram—and its fat can help the body absorb fat-soluble nutrients from foods such as leafy greens, carrots and tomatoes.
The recommended daily portion is one-quarter to one-half of a medium avocado, with Veena advising people to swap it for butter, mayonnaise or heavy dressings rather than add it to already calorie-dense meals.
Cautions include bloating if fibre rises too quickly, possible latex cross-reactivity, and the need for people on blood thinners, or with kidney disease or medication concerns, to seek medical advice because of vitamin K and potassium.
