If that camera is dropped, Samsung can simplify the system to three rear cameras: a main sensor, ultrawide, and 5x telephoto. Leaks suggest Samsung believes the older 3x lens adds less value than upgrading the remaining cameras and battery. Reports have also linked the cut to manufacturing cost pressure, with memory and component prices rising. That is why the redesign is controversial.
