ICE Lodges Detainer for 49-Year-Old Cuban Charged in Miami Street Killing

Miami-Dade jail is holding William Serrano Domenech, 49, after ICE filed a detainer following his arrest in the Aug. 17 fatal shooting of Raul Aballe, 42.
Authorities said Domenech argued with Aballe over jealousy, punched and slapped him, then pulled a gun from a fanny pack and shot him in the stomach; Aballe later died at a hospital.
Second-degree murder and felon-in-possession charges followed Domenech's arrest the next day, after investigators said he admitted the killing and a witness said Aballe was unarmed and did not start the fight.
DHS said Domenech, a Cuban citizen, had a 2002 deportation order and a criminal record across at least four states, including drug-trafficking and firearm convictions in Michigan.
The department said ICE had taken him into custody in 2023 but released him, turning the case into a fresh immigration-enforcement flashpoint as federal officials seek to keep him detained.
