Summary
Donald Steven Lang, 62, was arrested in Canada over the weekend at the request of the United States after an FBI search tied to a Hawaii child sexual exploitation indictment.
Prosecutors say Lang exploited a minor between September and December 2024 aboard his 55-foot sailboat, Ishi, and used or coerced the child to produce explicit images.
The FBI had warned Lang—last seen in Hawaii in January 2025—might be sailing across the Pacific toward Fiji, Mexico, Papua New Guinea or Indonesia, and had offered a $5,000 reward.
Lang, a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen, was already wanted in Idaho on 4 separate charges alleging sexual abuse of a minor between 2003 and 2007.
If convicted in the Hawaii case, he faces a mandatory minimum 15-year sentence, up to 30 years in prison, and possible forfeiture of the boat and digital devices.
