Apple Expands 40W Dynamic Power Adapter to 20 European Markets and Vietnam at €45

For some travelers, yes—but only as a lighter-duty MacBook charger, not a universal replacement for every MacBook power brick. Apple’s own guidance says the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max can be used with MacBook Air models, including recent 13-inch and 15-inch versions, via USB-C or MagSafe 3 cable. That makes it a credible travel substitute for a MacBook Air charger, especially if portability matters more than maximum charging speed. Its biggest advantage is size: Apple says it matches the footprint of the 20W iPhone charger while adding foldable prongs and up to 40W sustained output, with brief 60W boosts. The catch is performance. Apple also says Mac laptops charge best when the adapter meets or exceeds the model’s recommended wattage. Many MacBook Air models ship with 30W, 35W, 67W or 70W adapters, while MacBook Pro models typically require 61W, 67W, 70W, 87W, 96W or 140W. On higher-power machines—especially MacBook Pro models—the new charger will work in many cases, but charging will be slower and macOS may show a “Slow Charger” warning. That means this adapter is best seen as a travel-friendly consolidation tool for people carrying an iPhone, iPad Pro and a MacBook Air, not as a one-brick answer for the full Mac lineup. If you mainly use a MacBook Air and want one compact official Apple charger for trips, it is unusually compelling. If you travel with a MacBook Pro or need full-speed charging under load, your larger 67W-to-140W brick still has a clear role.
