Sony also appears to be relying on features that are now rare in this part of the market: a compact 6.1-inch body, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD expansion up to 2TB, front-facing stereo speakers, IP65/IP68 protection, a physical camera shutter button, and long software support of up to four Android upgrades and six years of security updates. That combination gives Sony some room to charge more because few direct rivals offer all of those traits together. Even so, the £150 increase is difficult to justify on pure specs. Sony has said rising costs are a factor, and broader component-price pressure may be contributing, but the company has not tied the increase to any one part. At £549, buyers can find competitors with faster chips, stronger cameras, or larger batteries for less. That means Sony’s price only makes sense for people who specifically want its unusual mix of compact size, wired audio, expandable storage, and long support.
