Tim MacMahon used a recent ESPN podcast breakdown of Klay Thompson’s fit with Miami to take an unsolicited swipe at Enes Kanter Freedom, saying the Heat are “as desperate for shooting as Enes Kanter is for attention.”
Brian Windhorst immediately reacted with “Oh no,” but MacMahon moved on and argued Thompson still makes sense for Miami on a relatively low-cost deal despite defensive concerns.
Freedom has remained in the spotlight since Sunday’s 113-90 Indiana Fever win over Chicago, when security removed him from Wintrust Arena after he yelled back at Sky player Natasha Cloud from his courtside seat.
Chicago Sky owner Michael Alter later barred Freedom from the arena, and team officials said arena security, NBA security and Chicago police deemed him a threat after he opened his arms, pointed toward Cloud and stepped toward the court.
Freedom on Wednesday disputed that label, saying he followed league rules, was ejected without the required warning and will keep pressing the WNBA over what he calls uneven enforcement.
