Royce White Attends Fever Game in Wig as 2027 WNBA Draft Bid Draws Scrutiny

Gainbridge Fieldhouse became Royce White’s latest stage Friday when the former NBA first-round pick attended Indiana Fever’s game against Connecticut wearing a long blonde wig, extending a draft campaign he launched earlier this month.
White said he was there to “support the WNBA” and “scout some of the competition,” while also framing the effort as pressure on the league to clarify whether biological males can compete under its current eligibility rules.
2027 is the draft White says he plans to enter; his attorney Matt Gaetz sent a declaration to the WNBA claiming eligibility as a transgender woman and warning the league to preserve records for possible litigation.
League rules say only women are eligible to play in the WNBA, but the CBA does not spell out a definition based on biological sex or gender identity; multiple outlets reported this week that White and Enes Kanter Freedom would not be eligible.
Freedom’s recent ejection from a Sky game and later ban from future Chicago games turned similar declarations into a national storyline, adding attention to White’s appearance in Indiana.
