AFPI Seeks 6 Pages of Records on Enes Kanter Freedom's Wintrust Arena Ban

Friday’s six-page Illinois FOIA request asks the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority for records tied to Enes Kanter Freedom’s ejection from an Aug. 23 Chicago Sky game and his subsequent ban from Wintrust Arena.
AFPI says the documents should show who controlled access, security and event operations at the publicly owned arena, a key issue in assessing whether any action can be attributed to a public entity.
The request seeks agreements involving MPEA, Oak View Group, the Sky and the WNBA, along with security policies, law-enforcement arrangements, records naming who authorized the removal and ban, and federal-funding documents.
Freedom was escorted out after a third-quarter verbal exchange with Sky guard Natasha Cloud while wearing a shirt reading, "WOMAN noun. adult human female."
MPEA owns the 10,000-seat arena through a public-private partnership with DePaul University; AFPI also asked it to preserve emails, texts and internal communications, though no lawsuit has been filed.
