Samsung has not labeled either problem a hardware defect; both reports tie them to the Fold 8’s new shape—a wider 7.6-inch 4:3 inner display, shorter body and vertically stacked rear cameras.
The redesign came after Samsung split the line in July into the standard Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, making the base model more practical unfolded but also introducing new ergonomic trade-offs.
Camera compromises extend beyond handling: the Fold 8 has 50MP wide and 50MP ultrawide cameras with no dedicated telephoto, while the Ultra adds a 200MP main sensor and 10MP 3x telephoto.
Independent tests said image quality drops beyond about 4x zoom on the standard model, though early demand has held up, with the Fold 8 taking nearly half of U.S. reservations.
