Months-long shortages have hit many Mac mini and Mac Studio configurations after enterprise buyers snapped up the desktops for AI workloads, prompting Apple to unveil new models unusually early this week.
The rush was fueled by businesses using the machines to run large AI models, with Apple emphasizing that multiple Mac Studios can be linked into a more powerful system for developers and corporate customers.
A global memory shortage has worsened the supply crunch, leaving high-end configurations especially hard to obtain and pushing some enterprise buyers toward Nvidia's DGX Spark.
The surge also exposed Apple's weak enterprise AI preparation: The Information said it lacked dedicated business engineering and developer-relations teams and turned down requests to buy access to Private Cloud Compute.
