Google has added Google Play Books to Gemini Notebook, letting users import eligible purchased ebooks and ask grounded questions or generate reports, quizzes, infographics and audio overviews from them.
100,000 titles are already supported from publishers including Penguin Random House, Macmillan and O'Reilly, though access is limited to select books and shared notebooks still require each recipient to buy their own copy.
More than 15 bestselling authors also have featured notebooks that users can open without buying a book, while Google is offering one free eligible title for a limited time.
The Play Books link is the first step in Google's Expert Intelligence initiative, which aims to turn books into research sources and later expand to more Google products, third-party subscriptions and textbooks.
