Glen Powell Recalls 12-Bar Nashville Night for 2027 Film The Comeback King

12 bars into a Nashville outing, Glen Powell said his research for “The Comeback King” ended with 3 a.m. beer pong at Jelly Roll’s Broadway bar, where HARDY beat him.
Powell said the night grew out of a songwriting session with HARDY as he tried to immerse himself in country music culture and make the Judd Apatow comedy feel authentic.
The 37-year-old actor plays disgraced singer Aubrey King, co-wrote the script with Apatow, and said the film was made “with country music,” not simply about it.
Powell also said the movie marks his first on-screen singing role; he performed his own songs live on set before cameos including Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley.
“The Comeback King” is set for a Feb. 5, 2027 theatrical release, while Walmart separately is rolling out Powell’s Smash Kitchen condiment line nationwide.
