Lenovo Launches $700 IdeaPad Vibe to Challenge MacBook Neo With 14- and 15-Inch Options

Q: Can Lenovo's colorful $700 IdeaPad Vibe truly dethrone Apple's MacBook Neo despite packing surprisingly outdated 5Gbps USB-C ports?

Not yet. Lenovo’s $700 IdeaPad Vibe looks like a credible MacBook Neo challenger, but the 5Gbps USB-C ports are only a secondary issue; the bigger question is whether Lenovo can match Apple on overall value, battery life, and polish at the same entry price. On paper, the Vibe has real advantages. It offers more ports than the Neo — two USB-C, two USB-A, HDMI, headphone jack, and microSD — plus more screen and chip choices, upgradable RAM on AMD models, up to 32GB memory, up to 1TB storage, Wi‑Fi 7, and seven colors with swappable keycaps. For buyers who want flexibility or legacy connectivity, it is plainly more practical than Apple’s simpler setup. The USB-C limitation matters, but mainly for power users. At 5Gbps, these ports are far behind Thunderbolt-class speeds for fast external SSDs, docks, and high-end display setups. In a laptop marketed as modern and AI-ready, that is dated. Still, many budget shoppers will care more that the ports exist at all than that they are slow. What keeps Lenovo from “dethroning” Apple today is the total package. The base Vibe starts with the same weak 8GB/256GB combo as the Neo, and Windows 11 is generally less forgiving than macOS at 8GB. Reviews and early hands-ons also suggest the answer will hinge on real-world battery life and pricing once memory upgrades push the Vibe closer to $1,000. So the Vibe can compete, especially for students and mainstream Windows buyers, but it has not yet clearly surpassed the MacBook Neo.
