Sept. 4 brought Stella Parton’s public rebuke of the “insensitivity from strangers” her family has faced since Dolly Parton’s death on Aug. 25.
Instagram was the venue for Stella’s statement, which said relatives have been hit with “endless garbage” and misinformation while grieving a loss already lived out in public.
80-year-old Dolly Parton, Stella wrote, did not deserve the unwarranted attention, describing her sister as a deeply compassionate figure whose music and public life lifted others.
Other family members have also spoken out or paid tribute: niece Lainey Mae recalled Dolly’s encouragement, while Jada Star led an Aug. 29 Grand Ole Opry tribute and said she believes Dolly is at peace.
Parton died after a brief cancer battle, having been admitted to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville on Aug. 21 and dying four days later.
