Google Adds 2 Gemini Desktop Modes as It Tests Computer Control and Obsidian Links

Google’s latest Gemini desktop build adds an Ask/Assign toggle, with Assign extending the newer Spark-style agent so users can confine tasks to a chosen folder or resume work in a prior one.
The update also tests links to other computers running Gemini desktop and a “computer use” skill that can trigger actions in local apps, though Google has not detailed how remote control would work.
Obsidian integration and a new Customize tab point to broader app, connector and plugin ambitions, but the current build remains limited mostly to Google services and existing extensions.
Code traces suggest Google is preparing support for Gemini 4, Nano Banana 2.5 Flash and macOS Finder folder handoff, reinforcing its push to turn Gemini desktop into a superapp against Codex and Claude Desktop.
All of the features are still in closed testing, and Google has not given a public release timeline.
