A four-season extension will keep Roger Goodell as NFL commissioner through March 31, 2031, carrying him through the end of the 2030 season.
More than 95% of Goodell's compensation is tied to league and personal performance metrics, and one industry consultant said the deal could reach $300 million if top incentives are met.
Robert Kraft told owners the Compensation Committee used an independent compensation consultant and outside counsel to structure the agreement around the league's long-term interests and growth.
The extension is Goodell's fifth since taking over in 2006 and would leave him with 24 years in the job, second only to Pete Rozelle among NFL commissioners.
Goodell's new term runs to the same March 2031 deadline as the NFL's current labor deal, even as the league faces scrutiny over its antitrust exemption, streaming access and possible congressional pressure.
