Summary
Alvaro Uribe-Gonzalez, 33, was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, DUI and driving without a valid license after a Sunday crash on U.S. Route 33 killed 23-year-old teacher Cameron Lyon.
Ohio troopers said Uribe-Gonzalez's eastbound SUV went off the road after 6 p.m., overcorrected, crossed into westbound lanes, overturned and hit Lyon's Chevrolet Trax before catching fire; alcohol is suspected.
Abrielle Kerns, 23, Lyon's fiancée, was seriously injured and remained in intensive care, according to relatives, after authorities had initially described her injuries as non-life-threatening.
DHS said Uribe-Gonzalez entered illegally in January 2020, was deported to Mexico in April 2020, then reentered the U.S. at an unknown time; ICE has lodged a detainer with the Fairfield County Jail.
The death of Lyon, who had recently started his first teaching job and had just become engaged, drew community fundraising support and political reaction from Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
