Summary
RNLI volunteers have been told to consider not wearing branded clothing in public as the charity reviews security after anti-migrant protests in Dover and Portsmouth.
Around 120 migrants intercepted off the Isle of Wight were brought to Eastney on Sunday at HM Coastguard's request, where blocked roads and protesters in the water prompted six lifeboat stations to respond.
Some crew members then had their names and photos shared online in posts accusing them of treason; one volunteer said he had been there to protect protesters in the water.
Peter Sparkes said Channel rescues make up only a tiny fraction of RNLI launches, but stressed crews will keep aiding anyone in distress and hand those rescued to the relevant authorities.
