Florida Woman Faces $350,000 Bond After Gas Station Fireball Burns Stranger

Eleanor Crawford, 41, was charged with attempted felony murder and two counts of arson after police said she used a lighter to ignite gasoline as Christine Sherbuk fueled her SUV at a St. Petersburg Mobil station.
Second-degree burns to Sherbuk’s arms and back left her in serious condition Thursday night, but police said she was stabilized at Tampa General Hospital and is expected to survive.
Multiple witnesses and video allegedly captured the attack, and officers arrested Crawford a couple of blocks away within about 20 minutes while responding to an earlier disturbance nearby.
Police said Crawford and Sherbuk did not know each other and have not identified a motive; authorities also have not said whether Crawford was under the influence despite her prior drug- and alcohol-related record.
Court records show Crawford is being held on $350,000 bond and must wear a GPS monitor if released as the investigation continues.
