It does not truly erase the crease; it makes it largely invisible by changing how light behaves on the inner screen. Reports and hands-on accounts point to Apple’s nano-texture top layer as the key. Instead of a glossy surface that reflects light in a uniform way and exposes every dip or ridge, the matte nano-texture scatters reflected light across the display. That diffusion masks the fold line visually, especially when viewed head-on, so the crease is much harder to see even if it can still be felt with a fingertip. The effect is reinforced by the rest of the display stack and hinge engineering. Coverage describes multiple flexible layers, optically clear adhesives that let those layers glide as the phone opens and closes, and a titanium-backed structure paired with a precision hinge of more than 100 parts. Early reviews suggest the crease is still visible from certain angles and under harsh lighting, so this is better described as a near-invisible crease rather than a crease-free display.

Third-generation iPhone Duo models are expected to gain Face ID and a telephoto camera, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, extending features missing from the first version.
Touch ID and dual rear cameras debuted on the current Duo likely because of space limits, with Gurman saying smaller components and AI-driven imaging could overcome those constraints.
AI would let Apple rely on less sophisticated depth-sensing and camera hardware while recovering some performance computationally, making the foldable design easier to accommodate.
