The new Meta One bundles mainly add more AI usage and extra account features, rather than replacing the free versions. But the broader evidence shows Meta is testing limits on some AI tools. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has said Meta’s generative AI tools are expensive to run, so the company already places daily caps on some image and video features and is building subscriptions for higher limits. Users who hit those caps may be told to wait for a reset or pay for more access. The clearest warning sign came from Meta’s AI glasses. Meta tried limiting the Conversation Focus feature to three free hours a month, with more time for Meta One Premium subscribers. After criticism, Meta paused that test and kept the feature free for now. That episode matters because it showed Meta is willing to meter even features users may assume are included. So the practical answer is this: Meta is not quietly degrading the entire free service today, but it is openly creating a system where free AI access can be limited by feature, by usage, and over time by product. If you are a casual user, you may never notice. If you rely heavily on Meta’s AI tools, more paywalls and usage caps are likely.

Creator and business plans range from $14.99 to $499 a month, adding verified badges, search ranking boosts, impersonation monitoring, analytics, publishing tools and more Meta Business Agent capacity on WhatsApp.
Meta said its apps and Meta AI will keep a free core experience, and users can still buy standalone subscriptions separately even as the company expands bundles to products including Edits and AI glasses.
