Samsung is renegotiating supply contracts to lift mobile DRAM and NAND flash prices by another 7-10% from already record-high levels.
The push reflects a broader memory crunch, with major suppliers also raising prices and tightening costs for smartphone and electronics makers.
Apple and other global handset manufacturers would face the increase, and Samsung's own mobile division is unlikely to be spared because it gets no preferential chip pricing.
Higher memory costs are likely to keep pushing up prices for phones, tablets and smartwatches, with no clear sign the market will ease soon.
