Court documents say 40-year-old Corie Walsh sang “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” during police questioning after her 2-year-old son Barrett was found hanging in the basement of their Frankfort, Illinois, home.
Walsh allegedly told officers she killed Barrett because she believed he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ,” while prosecutors are examining whether her fixation on the Lindsay Clancy child-murder trial could suggest a copycat link.
Sept. 1 is when Barrett was discovered by his two siblings returning from school; responding officers found a neighbor performing CPR, but the boy could not be saved.
Andrea Lyon, Walsh’s attorney, said her client was psychotic and argued the case should not be treated as first-degree murder, rejecting any connection between Walsh’s interest in Clancy and the killing.
