Q: With 90 security flaws patched, were any of the critical vulnerabilities in Samsung's Android 17 update actively exploited before today's release?

No. Based on the September 2026 Android and Samsung security bulletins, there is no indication that the critical vulnerabilities patched in Samsung’s Android 17/One UI 9.0 update were being actively exploited before today’s release. The update folds in Samsung’s September 2026 security patch, which addresses 90 issues in total: 58 from Google, 1 from Samsung Semiconductor, and 31 Samsung Mobile vulnerabilities. Among them are multiple critical flaws, including Android System and Framework issues that could enable remote code execution or privilege escalation without user interaction, as well as two Samsung-specific critical heap-based buffer overflows in image decoders. But neither Samsung’s bulletin nor Google’s Android Security Bulletin says these particular Android 17/Galaxy fixes were exploited in the wild. Samsung specifically noted no active exploitation for the highlighted Samsung-specific vulnerabilities. Separate reporting on Google’s broader September Pixel patch did mention one actively exploited zero-day, but that was in Pixel’s modem component and is not part of the Galaxy S26 One UI 9.0 bulletin described here. So the risk level was serious, especially because some flaws required no user interaction, but the available evidence does not show that those critical vulnerabilities had been used in attacks on Samsung devices before this rollout.

Sept. 16 marked Samsung’s official One UI 9 rollout to the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra, extending the update beyond the Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8.
One UI 9 centers on expanded Galaxy AI, adding My FanCam 2 auto-tracking, customizable Now Brief cards, context-aware Now Nudge prompts and a new Warranty and Care hub in Settings.
Translation, scanning and recording also get upgrades: Interpreter adds Thread View and faster Conversation Mode, Document Scan handles curved or folded pages better, and Voice Recorder outputs clearer structured summaries.
Security features are a major part of the release, with Security Brief surfacing malware and permission alerts, Privacy Alerts using on-device AI to flag risky background access, and Scam Detection expanding to Japan, Canada and India.
Samsung said the update will gradually reach more Galaxy devices, following a South Korea launch for the S26 line after months of beta testing.
