GM Reveals 481-HP, 501-lb-ft V-8 for 2027 Silverado and Sierra

GM said its new 6.6-liter L78 V-8 will deliver 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, due by year-end.
The second new engine, a 5.7-liter V-8, makes 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet, up from the outgoing 5.3-liter’s 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet.
Both sixth-generation small-blocks keep a cam-in-block, two-valve layout but add higher compression, larger throttles and redesigned intake manifolds to improve combustion and airflow.
GM also upgraded the standard 2.7-liter turbo-four to 350 horsepower and 455 pound-feet, while the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel stays at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet.
Towing capacity rises with the new lineup: every truck gets a 10-speed automatic, diesel models can pull up to 12,100 pounds, and the 5.7-liter Silverado tops out at 13,700 pounds.
