GM says the virtual dipstick should make oil checks easier from inside the cabin, but DIY owners may object because they can no longer visually verify oil levels during routine maintenance or oil changes.
The move comes as GM rolls out a redesigned infotainment system and a V8 family developed at a reported cost of $900 million, putting reliability scrutiny on the new setup.
