Judge Judy Urges Retrial in Lindsay Clancy Case After 11-1 Mistrial Split

Judge Judy Sheindlin said prosecutors risk “danger” if they do not retry Lindsay Clancy after a Massachusetts jury deadlocked 11-1 earlier this month.
The 83-year-old former TV judge said there was “no question” Clancy killed her three children, framing the unresolved issue as whether mental illness excuses criminal responsibility.
Jurors deliberated for seven days before Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Sept. 4; later accounts said 11 favored finding Clancy not criminally responsible and one favored conviction.
Kevin Reddington, Clancy’s lawyer, has signaled he will fight a retrial, but said he would accept a bench trial if prosecutors reduced the top charge to second-degree murder.
Clancy, 36, remains at Tewksbury Hospital and is due back in court on Sept. 29 as prosecutors weigh whether to retry, negotiate a plea, or pursue a reduced charge.
