Trump cited new trade progress, while Xi urged that AI remain under human control and said the two powers share responsibility to manage the technology safely.
Taiwan remained a major flashpoint: Chinese state media said Xi pressed Washington to oppose Taiwan independence, even as the US maintains unofficial ties and arms support for the island’s 23 million people.
Iran also entered the talks, with Chinese media saying Xi backed a return to the 14-point June memorandum between the US and Iran and a resumption of nuclear negotiations.
