A Code Pink activist interrupted a New York Climate Week event hosted by The Nature Conservancy, accusing the group of ignoring the U.S. military's role in the climate crisis.
Aaron, an organizer for Code Pink's "War Is Not Green" campaign, said the Pentagon's $1.5 trillion budget reflects a military system that destroys ecosystems, fish and communities through bases, wars and occupations.
The group pressed The Nature Conservancy — which it said has a budget above $2 billion — to publicly label the U.S. military a leading institutional polluter and reject military-linked partnerships or funding.
Code Pink said its broader aim at Climate Week is to force environmental groups to include the military-industrial complex in climate debates and push for Pentagon cuts and an end to wars it says devastate ecosystems.
