Summary
SteamOS 3.9.2 Beta is now available after 3.8.28 moved to stable, pushing the 3.9 branch one step closer to a full release.
The update targets a broad set of bugs, including broken Steam Remote Play on Steam Machine without an external display, a nonworking frame-limiter toggle under VRR, and slower boot times introduced in earlier 3.9 previews.
Valve also fixed game and device compatibility issues, including launch failures for ELDEN RING and DARK SOULS III on recent Intel Panther Lake CPUs, wake-from-sleep fan problems on some ASUS systems, and hidden WiFi first-try connection failures.
SteamOS 3.9 itself adds a newer Arch Linux base, upgrades Desktop Mode from Plasma 6.4.3 to 6.7.3, rebases the kernel to Linux 7.2, and improves WiFi, hibernation and VM-guest graphics support.
The release lands alongside a Steam Client Beta update and SteamOS 0.4.1 Beta for Steam Frame, signaling a wider Valve push to smooth performance across handheld, desktop and streaming setups.
