Category 3 Polo had been one of the Eastern Pacific’s strongest storms before weakening, but it still prompted a hurricane warning across central Baja California and a California state of emergency.
Nearly all of Arizona is under a Flood Watch, and forecasters expect Polo’s moisture to spread into California, New Mexico, Arizona and northwest Texas, bringing a multi-day flood threat starting Monday.
Tropical Storm Rachel formed off Mexico’s southwestern coast as the Pacific season’s 20th named storm, packing 45 mph winds and generating dangerous swells and rip currents along the coast.
