3 Masked Suspects Target Monet Mazur's $1.5 Million Home, Flee Before Police Arrive

Q: Why did masked suspects flee from Monet Mazur’s Hollywood Hills home, and what does the incident reveal about the best first line of defense?

The masked suspects appear to have fled because they were detected quickly—either after Mazur saw them on security cameras and confronted them, or when the home alarm sounded as they tried the front door. In both reported versions, the attempted break-in was disrupted before the intruders got inside or stole anything. The episode underscores that the best first line of defense is early detection, not any single dramatic security measure. The key factor was that the suspects were identified immediately, which removed surprise and forced them to retreat. Security expert Stephen Scott said protection works best in layers: alarms, cameras, motion sensors, controlled access, and backup systems that warn residents fast enough to call police, secure family members, and respond. The incident also highlights why trained protection dogs are increasingly discussed as part of that early-warning layer. Scott said such dogs can detect intruders, alert homeowners, and move toward an entry point, buying critical time during a break-in. But he also stressed that dogs are not a standalone answer any more than gates, cameras, or guards are. More broadly, the attempted burglary reflects how criminals may exploit predictable routines and public social media clues. The practical lesson is that homeowners—especially high-profile ones—benefit most from layered security built around rapid detection and deterrence, because that is what appears to have stopped this incident.

Los Angeles police responded before 11:30 p.m. Saturday to an attempted break-in at Monet Mazur's Hollywood Hills home, where at least one person was inside and the suspects had already fled.
Three people in black clothing and ski masks were seen on security cameras, according to reports, and an alarm may have been triggered when they tried to open the front door; nothing was taken and no injuries were reported.
Officers searched the area but found no suspects, and police said no suspect description was immediately available after completing a burglary report.
The attempted intrusion adds to a string of celebrity home security scares after Simone Biles said last month that her Chicago home was robbed earlier this year.
