Pokémon GO Sets Oct. 10 Zorua Community Day With 3x XP and Shiny Debut

Q: With Zorua Community Day bringing exclusive moves and massive XP, what hidden catch mechanic might ruin your shiny hunt this Saturday?

The hidden mechanic is Zorua’s disguise: during Community Day, many “wild” spawns may appear as your current buddy on the map and only reveal themselves as Zorua after you tap and catch them. That matters for shiny hunting because you cannot trust what you see on the overworld. If your buddy is a rare or large Pokémon, Zorua may be easy to miss, and if you skip buddy-looking spawns you could pass up shiny checks. The shiny is determined on encounter, but the disguise can slow players down and create confusion about which spawns are actually Community Day targets. There is another catch-related wrinkle tied to this event. Event details indicate that regular Lure Modules have a special mechanic from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time: PokéStops with active regular Lures have a very high chance to generate Zorua. Those lure-spawned Zorua can still be shiny and may carry a special background, but because they blend into the disguise system, they are easy to overlook if you are not tapping everything around lured stops. The practical fix is simple: set an easy-to-recognize buddy before the event and check every buddy-lookalike spawn, especially around regular Lures. That is the best way to avoid the disguise mechanic ruining your shiny hunt while taking advantage of the 3× catch XP and exclusive Sucker Punch evolution window.

Q: Shadow Zekrom and Shiny Applin vanish tomorrow; are you ready to risk your Super Rocket Radar before time runs out?

Yes—if you want Shadow Zekrom or a last shot at Shiny Applin, the deadline is Monday, October 5, at 8 p.m. local time. That cutoff matters because both the Team GO Rocket Takeover and Harvest Festival: Applin Picking end then. Shadow Zekrom is only available from Giovanni during the takeover, and Giovanni can only be found using a Super Rocket Radar earned through the Harvest Festival GO Pass. If you already unlocked that radar, using it before 8 p.m. is the only way to secure Shadow Zekrom while it is still in rotation. There is one important nuance: GO Pass rewards do not vanish immediately at event end. Rewards unlocked from the Harvest Festival GO Pass can still be claimed until Wednesday, October 7, at 8 p.m. local time. But claiming the radar after Monday evening may be too late to use it for Shadow Zekrom, because Giovanni’s featured Shadow Pokémon changes when the takeover ends. For Shiny Applin, Monday at 8 p.m. local time is also the final window for boosted event access. Shiny Applin debuted during Harvest Festival: Applin Picking, alongside apple spawns from Mossy Lures and event-specific research. After the event, those focused encounter methods disappear. For players deciding whether to spend the radar now, the trade-off is simple: use it before 8 p.m. if Shadow Zekrom is a priority; save it only if you are willing to miss this limited Shadow legendary and wait for Giovanni’s next rotation.

Q: As Twilight Trails unleashes Mega-Evolved Pokémon into battles, which surprise contender will absolutely dominate the new PvP meta this week?

The likeliest surprise contender this week is **Mega Blastoise**. That call is driven by the actual GO Battle League rotation for **October 6–13**, when **Great League: Mega Edition, Ultra League: Mega Edition, and Master League: Mega Edition** are all active, with **4× Stardust from win rewards**. Mega-Evolved Pokémon are newly legal in these formats, and Mega Blastoise arrives in raids on **October 7**, immediately putting a fresh, accessible Mega into circulation for PvP-minded players. Why Mega Blastoise stands out is its combination of bulk, broad utility, and timing. In Mega formats, raw pressure matters, but survivability and flexible Water-type coverage are often what stabilize teams. Blastoise has long been a dependable PvP species in standard formats, and its Mega version benefits from the expanded Mega rules this season, including the broader push toward extra Charged Attack access for eligible Megas. That makes it a practical anti-meta option rather than just a flashy raid boss. The other obvious headliners this week are **Yveltal** in raids and **Zoroark** after Community Day with **Sucker Punch**, but neither looks as immediately oppressive in the new Mega-focused ladder. Yveltal is strong, but it is not the week’s new Mega entrant, and Zoroark remains more of a high-risk spice pick than a format-defining force. So if there is one “surprise” name poised to overperform as Twilight Trails opens the Mega floodgates this week, it is **Mega Blastoise**.
