Summary
Allegheny County confirmed its first resident measles case Monday in an unvaccinated minor, while saying no school-related exposures have been identified.
Target shoppers on McKnight Road who were there Oct. 1 from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. may have been exposed; unvaccinated people were told to call ahead before seeking care.
Pennsylvania has reported its largest measles outbreak in more than three decades this year, with nearly 20% of identified patients hospitalized.
Measles can linger in air and on surfaces for up to two hours, and the state says two MMR doses provide 97% protection.
MMR demand has surged since the outbreak began: providers typically give about 25,000 doses, versus more than 49,000 in August and 53,000 in September.
